Russian troops keep hold of key georgia positions after recapturing several villages during fighting with ISIS.

I urge all partners to give all necessary humanitarian assistance to the civilians displaced by the attacks and to provide urgent medical help. I call for the Syrian Arab Coalition to take advantage of the humanitarian opportunities now opening up. We must take these opportunities to evacuate the wounded and suffering civilians from the affected areas."

Tasmanian government seeks support for major education changes

The Tasmanian government says it is open to listening to stakeholders in the education sector as it looks to transform its flagship system.

Minister of Education Nick Smith has appointed an education adviser to help formulate new reforms to the state education system after a major review.

He said the department was committed to listening to all stakeholders and would seek advice from all major education providers on what it could do to deliver better outcomes for Tasmanian students.

The advice includes a discussion of how students should be provided with an equal opportunity to progress in education.

Education minister Matthew Groom also says the department will listen to community expectations on the status of the system and will consider recommendations.
